Power failure

Do you know how dependent you are on electricity, gas, oil or district heating? What happens when everything fails? The telephone is dead, the heating won't start, there's no hot water, the computer goes on strike, the coffee machine stops working, the lights are out. You can add to this list at will. You quickly realize how dependent you are on electrical energy.

Power outages are usually resolved within a few hours. However, in emergency situations, it can take days before the power is available again.

Act correctly in the event of a power failure

  • Warm clothing can replace the heating for a while. If you have a fireplace or stove, you should have a supply of coal, briquettes or wood in the house.
  • Keep a supply of candles and flashlights (e.g. a crank flashlight or solar and LED lights) as well as spare bulbs, batteries, matches or lighters, candles etc. in the house.
  • You can prepare smaller meals on a camping stove.
  • Use a garden or table barbecue that runs on charcoal or gas. Caution! Do not barbecue indoors or in the house - there is a risk of suffocation!
  • Make sure that the batteries on computers, cell phones, telephones, etc. are charged. Solar-powered battery chargers can be a help.
  • Remember to have a sufficient cash reserve in the house, as ATMs will also stop working in the event of a power cut.
  • Have a battery-operated radio ready.
