The City of Aachen's real estate management department, Department 23 for short, is responsible for all municipal properties when it comes to buying and selling land. We sell building plots to prospective builders and commercial plots to companies. But that's not all. Did you know that the City of Aachen, together with various foundations, owns 13 estates and a large number of leases with farmers? In addition, there are around 2,500 allotment gardens on 42 sites. These are leased to the Stadtverband Aachen der Familiengärtner e.V.. This is the federation of the individual garden associations that run the allotment garden sites.
Department 23 assumes the ownership function for the municipal properties. It leases and maintains the properties, buys and sells or grants heritable building rights to properties and develops them. In particular, we develop concepts for urban properties before they are allocated to potential developers in a concept procedure. The municipal apartments are also managed by the department.
The strategic development of real estate management is of particular importance - we purchase strategically important properties for the implementation of urban development plans and for land reserves. In particular, social, climatic and design objectives of the city are to be implemented sustainably and effectively within the framework of concept awards.
The City of Aachen is also at the forefront in the area of leaseholds. The city and its various foundations have granted a total of around 1,200 leaseholds. If there are any questions or sales in this area, Department 23 is also the right contact here.
The city owns around 2,800 apartments in Aachen. The city-owned apartments are rented out by gewoge AG. However, if you are interested in renting an apartment, you must have a certificate of eligibility for housing.
