Separate waste

symbolic image

That's what it's all about

We throw things away every day.
For example, packaging.
That's why we have a lot of garbage.
It's bad for the environment.

But some things in the garbage
can be turned into something new.
It is also said:
You can recycle garbage.
Another word for this is recycling.
This is an English word.
It is pronounced like this: Ri-sseik-ling.

Recycling is a good thing.

But: Recycling only works
if everyone takes part.

  • Can all the waste be recycled?

    No.
You can only recycle some things from waste.
These things are called recyclable materials.

    Examples of recyclable materials are

    • Paper
    • Plastic packaging
    • Glass
    • Garden waste.
  • You must separate the waste

    symbolic image

    Attention:
You cannot recycle the recyclable materials
    together.
You must therefore separate the waste.

    symbolic image

    And:
    It is very important
that you separate your waste correctly.
    We explain
    how to do this correctly.

What do you do with the valuable materials?

    symbolic image

Many new things are made from the valuable materials
    .

    For example

    symbolic image
    • New paper is made from old paper.
    • New glass is made from old glass bottles.
    • Kitchen waste is turned into
      Fertilizer for the garden.
Plants grow better with the fertilizer.

    • Paper from books

from the book into the blue garbage can.
      Not the whole book.

Some things are similar to paper.
But these things are not only made of paper.
They often have a layer of plastic, for example.
This is why these things are not allowed in the blue garbage can.

Tips for the green garbage can

    symbolic image

If it is very warm in summer:
Organic waste can quickly become putrid
    and smelly.
    What you can do
    to prevent this from happening:

    • Wrap damp organic waste in newspaper.
    • Place newspaper or egg cartons at the bottom of the garbage can.
This is because the paper absorbs water.
    • Allow the grass from mowing the lawn to dry a little first.

Sometimes small animals also get into the green garbage can.
    For example worms.
    This is not good.
Then pour dry garden soil, for example
    , into the garbage can.

When it is very cold in winter:

    symbolic image

The organic waste can freeze in the garbage can.
The waste then gets stuck in the garbage can when
    emptying it.
You can do this in the evening before emptying the garbage can:

Carefully remove the organic waste from the garbage can.
    For example, with a shovel.
    You must not:
Please do not pour hot water into the green garbage can.
This is because the water and the organic waste will freeze during the night.

You can also throw composite packaging
    into the Yellow Bag.

    For example:

    • Beverage cartons
    • Fish or meat packaging

    The yellow bag
must be placed by the street by 7 a.m.
    .

    Please note:
The yellow bag should not be in the way.

    If it is stormy:
Only place the Yellow Bag on the street in the morning.
This is because the Yellow Bag is very light.
The wind blows the Yellow Bags quickly into the street.
Then cars drive over them and the waste lies on the street.
