Dog tax

Almost all dog owners have to pay dog tax.
Even if you only have the dog with you for a short time, for example:
You have to pay dog tax after 2 months .

Even if your dog has had babies.
When the dog babies are 2 months old:

If you get a dog:

You have 2 weeks to do this.

You pay the dog tax every year on July 1.

If you have a normal dog:
Then you pay 120 euros a year in dog tax.
2 dogs cost 288 euros a year.
3 dogs cost 468 euros a year.

You have to pay more dog tax for some dogs
:

For example:
You have a fighting dog.
The tax for the dog is 720 euros per year.

2 such dogs cost almost 2 thousand euros a year.
3 such dogs cost more than 3 thousand euros a year.

The taxes are

• for dangerous dogs
• for some dog breeds
  such as Rottweilers.

Please note:
You must also register these dogs and large dogs with the public order office

These dog owners pay less dog tax

If you have the Aachen Pass:
Then you only pay 40 euros for a dog.

Attention:
This does not apply

• if you have more than one dog
• if you have a fighting dog.

Then you pay the full dog tax for all dogs.

For registration:
Make a copy of your Aachen Pass.
Send the copy
to the city with your registration.

If you have a dog from the Aachen animal shelter:
Then you pay no dog tax for 2 years.

For registration:
You have received a contract from the animal shelter.
The contract is called an animal surrender contract.

Make a copy of the contract.
Send the copy
with the application to the city.

You have a disability
and need the dog to live.

For example
because you cannot see well.
Then you do not pay dog tax.
Your disabled person's ID card
will show one of these signs:

Send the copy to the city with your registration.

How to register with the city of Aachen

You do not have to come to the office in person.
You have 3 options:

What happens then?

When the city has received the registration:
The city will send you a letter.
The letter contains a metal tag.
This is the dog tag.
You must attach the dog tag to the dog's collar.

You haveregistereda large dog or
a dangerous dog

Your dog is large or dangerous.
These dogs must also be registered with the public order office
.

If you register the dog with the city:
The city will then automatically send this information to the Ordnungs-Amt.
You will therefore receive a letter from the Ordnungs-Amt a little later.
The letter will tell you what information the Ordnungs-Amt still needs.

If something changes in your home
you must report this to the city.

• if your dog has died.
