Basic security is an aid
for people with little money.
Some people have
too little money to live on.

For example

  • when people are old and only receive a small pension.
  • when people are ill or have a disability.

Then they can only work a little.
Or people can't work at all.
This is called reduced earning capacity.

The state helps these people with money.
The money is called basic security.
People receive the
basic security from the social welfare office.

There are rules for basic security.
The rules are in a law book.
The law book is called: Social Law Book 12.


  • Who gets basic security?

    These people receive basic income support:

    • Old people with very little pension
    • People who cannot work
    • People who work in a workshop for
    • people with disabilities work.

    This is called:
    People have a right to basic security.

    If a person has saved a lot of money, for example

    Then they will not receive basic security.
    You only get the money
    if you need it to live on

    • Means of life
    • Clothing
    • the rent for the apartment
    • Insurances
    • Things
      that you do in your free time.
  • How much money do you get with basic security?

    The social law book says:
    One person receives 424 euros per month.
    This is also called the standard rate.
    If the person has a family:
    Then everyone in the family also receives money.

    If you need basic security
    the social security office will pay you

    • the rule set
    • Money for heating costs
    • Money for the rent
    • Your health insurance
    • Your long-term care insurance
    • Money for special things.
      For example, for special food
      because you may be ill.

    You will receive more money
    if you have a walking disability.
    This must then appear on your
    severely disabled person's pass:
    G or aG.

  • How to get the basic fuse

    You must submit an application to the social welfare office at
    .

    There is a form for the application.
    You can obtain the form from
    , for example from the social welfare office.

  • How to fill out the form

    You may need help with the application.
    Because the form is not in plain language.

    You have to write many things on the form.
    For example:

    • who you live with
    • whether you have children
    • how much money you earn
    • how much rent you pay
    • how much money you have saved.

    Important:
    Please fill out the entire form.

    Then submit the application to the social welfare office.

    What happens then?

    The staff at the social welfare office will check your application.
    If everything is in order:
    You will then receive basic security benefits.

  • When will you receive the money?

    If you submit the application
    you will already receive money this month.

    Here is an example:
    You submitted the application on April 25.
    You will then receive the basic security benefit for April.
    Even if the review may take until May.
