Wunderkind and Wunderkammer at the Suermondt-Ludwig Museum

The late 19th century city palace was built by Eduard Linse based on the model of Venetian aristocratic palaces with a three-storey, richly decorated façade in the Neo-Renaissance style. Rediscovered and conserved wall paintings and old ceiling decorations have been preserved in the entrance, staircase and other rooms.
The rich art collection with objects from antiquity to the present day is thanks to donations from Aachen citizens, above all Barthold Suermondt and Irene and Peter Ludwig.
