The Aachen slaughterhouse - valuable and irreplaceable?
Built between 1890 and 1894, the municipal abattoir was used until 2002. Since then, some buildings have been demolished, while others have been renovated and listed.
The abattoir stands for the industrialization of the 19th century and the beginning of mass production, including of food, which satisfies the needs of modern consumer society. On our tour, we take a look at which buildings still exist and explore the question of how valuable and irreplaceable industrial monuments are.
