The Märkerhaus on Aachen's Lousberg

The Märkerhaus on Aachen's Lousberg
At the beginning of the 20th century, Nizzaallee was built on the southern slope of the Lousberg as a residential area for the upper middle classes with lavish villas, including today's Märkerhaus at Nizzaallee 4, which was completed in 1910 and was built by the cloth manufacturer Consul Otto Peltzer. Since 1958, the villa has been owned by the Märkerheimverein, which uses it as a student residence and strives to preserve it as a listed building.
The building combines elements of Baroque and Classicism. On the bel étage, halls with stucco and beamed ceilings give an impression of the living culture of 100 years ago. In the spirit of this year's motto "Wert-voll" (full of value), the symbiosis of the lordship and the staff as well as the challenge of preserving the substance of the building in line with its listed status are central themes of the guided tour.
