Over the course of its more than 500-year history, the "Great House of Aachen" has been subjected to numerous uses. From horse stables to the city scales to a prison, but above all as a central location for the galley trade, which was central to the flourishing brass industry in Aachen at the time.
10.00 a.m.: You've certainly never been here: in the air-raid shelter under the newspaper museum or up under the roof, whose roof truss was rebuilt immediately after the city fire of 1656. Museum director Andreas Düspohl will give you a knowledgeable tour of these otherwise hidden places. Guided tour by appointment only.
11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.: Presentation of the typesetting department with print samples with the former editor of the FAZ, Johannes Janssen
2.00 p.m.: Who still reads newspapers?
Guided tour of the permanent exhibition with Christina Kral
How valuable are traditional media and do they still play a role despite digital alternatives? An exciting opportunity to reflect on the value of information and the transformation of society.
3.00 pm: "Valuable newspapers? On the problems of conservation and restoration" lecture with object examples by Andreas Düspohl.
