Charlemagne Prize

The International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, which was first awarded in 1950, is the oldest and best-known prize awarded to personalities or institutions that have rendered outstanding services to Europe and European unification.

The prize was named after Charlemagne, who is regarded as the first unifier of Europe and who chose Aachen as his favorite palace at the end of the eighth century, thus building a bridge between Europe's past and future.
