The third re-founding of the EU: the history and present of European integration

75 years ago, French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman gave the speech that is generally regarded as the starting signal for the EU of our time. A good occasion to pause and ask about the original motives and the effects of European integration. And to discuss where we stand today. What lessons does history hold for the present and the future? Prof. Dr. Kiran Klaus Patel is Professor of Modern and Contemporary History at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. He was previously a professor at Maastricht University, among others. Kiran Patel is considered one of the most distinguished experts on the history of European integration and European history as a whole. The event is a cooperation between the International Charlemagne Prize and the "Leonardo" project at RWTH Aachen University. It is part of a series in which RWTH students prepare for the visit of the Charlemagne Prize winner.

Lecture: Prof. Dr. Kiran Klaus Patel, Chair of Modern and Contemporary History at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich.
