Richterich Cultural Circle
The Kulturkreis Richterich zu Aachen e. V., or Kulturkreis Richterich for short, has been offering citizens a range of cultural activities since 1980. These include creative courses for children and adults as well as lectures and concerts, which take place in Schönau Castle. In addition, one-day and multi-day trips are organized to museums (permanent and special exhibitions) and other cultural attractions in Germany and abroad. The current program can be found in the calendar of events.
"Pick a book that makes you curious. Take the book home with you or start browsing right away: on a bench, in the nearest café." These are the words on a notice in the new bookcase on Rathausplatz in Richterich, very close to a bank, hairdressing salon and bakery.
District Mayor Marlies Köhne opened the new "library" on Thursday, January 23, together with the initiators and sponsors. Users can borrow books here free of charge around the clock.
The Richterich district council used its district funds to purchase the bookcase in 2013. It was sponsored by the Kulturkreis Richterich association, whose contact person is Friedhelm Dubois.
The bookcase can hold around 250 books. A second park bench is soon to be installed near it. The idea behind the bookcases is very simple: the people of Richterich can place books they have read in the cupboard and come across other, as yet unknown books there. The initiators recommend placing children's books on the bottom shelf. There are already bookcases in Aachen-Nord, Burtscheid, Haaren, Kornelimünster and Laurensberg. In addition, the Kulturkreis Richterich has taken over the sponsorship of the bookcase inaugurated in 2014 on Rathausplatz in Richterich.
