Dear fellow citizens,
Dear visitors to the Richterich district website,
I would like to welcome you and thank you for your interest in our district. Until 1972, Richterich was an independent municipality with villages largely characterized by agriculture and a history steeped in history. Richterich was then incorporated into the city of Aachen as part of the municipal reorganization and became one of Aachen's seven districts.
At the end of the 1960s, more and more people were moving out of the city centers and into the countryside. Those politically active in Richterich at the time recognized this and reacted: The purchase of Schönau Castle and the land belonging to it made it possible to develop a large new housing estate - the Schönau housing estate. Further new development areas were added over the years and I would like to mention that further considerations and plans have been made in this regard for the city as a whole, which the Richterich district council is not opposed to in principle.
Today, Richterich is an attractive place to live, whose appeal lies in the diversity of the agricultural district of Horbach, the wide open spaces of fields and meadows and urban living.
Richterich has always been a lively district: We are characterized by an intact and, above all, committed club life with the cultivation of customs and a wide range of cultural, religious and sporting activities, local schools and educational opportunities, a good infrastructure, short distances to Aachen's city centre as well as to the facilities of the universities and the university hospital.
An important point of contact is the district office; the staff will help you quickly and unbureaucratically with many everyday questions.
I cordially invite you to take a virtual tour of Richterich and Horbach, where you can learn lots of interesting facts about our beautiful district.
With best regards
Hubert Meyers
District Mayor
