Background

On June 23, 1887, Mrs. Louise Houben made a will in which she donated and bequeathed her "entire remaining assets" to the City of Aachen on the condition that a Houben Foundation be formed from them to provide scholarships. The City of Aachen is the sponsor of the foundation and manages the foundation's assets as special assets in trust in accordance with the applicable provisions of municipal law.
