Citymarketing City of Aachen

City center marketing

New tourist signposting, free Wi-Fi, a science tour between the old town and the university and new (also digital) city lights have been the priority projects in recent years. In addition, the city marketing department provides advice on many aspects of urban design and monument preservation. In 2019 and 2020, this primarily concerned the introduction of priority cycle routes and premium paths for pedestrians.

Shopping in Aachen

As in all cities, retailers in Aachen are also struggling with strong competition from online retailers. This makes it all the more important to act together and increase the attractiveness of local retail. Since 2015, the Initiative Einkaufen in Aachen has been a city center stakeholder consisting of Märkte- und Aktionskreis City (MAC), Stadtmarketing, aachen tourist service, ECE, Aachen retailers and sponsors. City Marketing is an active member of the initiative's strategic steering committee.

The initiative has the task of marketing Aachen's city center as a shopping location and is financed by the partners' contributions. Since then, a brand has been established that provides a comprehensive range of information under the label "Shopping in Aachen", including a database with around 500 stores and numerous business and owner portraits of Aachen's city center. The initiative's permanent ambient repertoire includes the deckchair campaign "Aachen takes a seat" and the Christmas light campaign "Aachen shines".
