Heinrich Brötz

Curriculum vitae

Heinrich Brötz was born on 03.06.1964 on the Lower Rhine. After graduating from high school in Krefeld, attending a commercial college for graduates and completing his civilian service in a retirement home in Kempen, he studied economics at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität (WWU) in Münster. After graduating with a degree in economics, he spent six months in the Brazilian metropolis of Porto Alegre working on 'municipal participatory budgeting' and, after a brief transition, joined the Catholic development aid organization Misereor in Aachen as a research assistant at an economics institute at the WWU. There he spent nine years as a consultant for Brazil and then headed the Latin America department for twelve years. He later gained in-depth insights into the social economy as a board member and managing director of the Caritas Association Geldern-Kevelaer (and affiliated companies) before being appointed Head of the Children, Youth and Schools Department of the City of Aachen in 2014. On 01.01.2023, Mr. Brötz was elected Alderman for Education, Youth and Culture.

Heinrich Brötz is the father of three adult children. In his free time, he takes advantage of the very rich cultural offerings in the city of Aachen, cooks, hikes, reads, runs, cycles and enjoys life.
