Process status

A single-stage planning competition was held for the fourth fire and rescue station at the Robert-Schuman-Straße/Siegelallee site on the basis of the framework conditions decided by the planning committee on 16.11.2023. On 05.09.2024, the jury awarded three prizes and one commendation.

Explanations Planning objectives

The aim is to create a balanced relationship between the future main use of the fire and rescue station and the other uses of the sports field with changing rooms and toilets as well as the football pitch (possibly with other leisure facilities).

In addition to requirements for urban and open space planning, structural engineering issues (functionality and design of the buildings) and climate and environmental protection concerns play a major role.

Information on the planning competition

A single-phase competition was held with twelve working groups from the fields of architecture, urban planning and landscape architecture. The process resulted in an overarching urban development and open space planning concept for the entire plan area as well as an in-depth development for the structural engineering part of the project (fire/rescue station).

The winning design (after revision of the shortcomings identified by the jury) will form the basis for the development of the development plan and the further development of the building construction project.

The results of the competition "New Fire and Rescue Station Robert-Schuman-Straße / Siegelallee" were publicly exhibited in the Aachen City Library from 08.10.2024 to 12.10.2024.

Citizens' dialog

On 15.09.2023, an information event for citizens took place in the auditorium of the Catholic University of Aachen. After an introduction to the process and a presentation of the necessity of the planned measures, the objectives and added value of the planning competition were explained by the City of Aachen's specialist administration.

Citizens then had the opportunity to put forward ideas and suggestions in a transparent exchange. In particular, possible effects on traffic and noise emissions from the new use on the surrounding area were addressed in this context.
