The urban land use planning of the City of Aachen is integrated into the German system of spatial planning. Citizen participation is of particular importance in the preparation of the land use plan, the development plans and the landscape plan.
What plans are there?

The city of Aachen's urban land-use planning has the following plans: the land-use plan as a preparatory urban land-use plan and the development plan as a binding urban land-use plan. Another instrument is the landscape plan.

The new landscape plan
The main features of the Aachen landscape plan have been in place since 1988. Changes in legislation and changes in the use of outdoor areas make it necessary to draw up a new plan. In NRW, the landscape plan is drawn up by the districts and independent cities as the bodies responsible for landscape planning on the basis of a legally regulated democratic procedure in intensive cooperation with the stakeholders involved and the citizens.

Information for project sponsors
The City of Aachen has been working successfully with private investors for many years when it comes to urban and district development for housing, research and development, healthcare, trade, services or retail. For many urban development projects, a project and development plan has to be drawn up and a project-related development plan is required. These are drawn up by the Department of Urban Planning and Urban Development in collaboration with the investors and their architects, urban planners and other specialist planners. This is where all important coordination and consultations in the political bodies are prepared. In times of increased demands on all projects, good cooperation between investors and the administration is particularly important to us.
