Carnival

At the latest when "Oche Alaaf" resounds through Aachen on Fat Thursday and the "Öcher Fraulü" (Aachen women) take command in the town hall, it is clear: the imperial city is a stronghold of the Rhenish carnival!

But since 11.11. on the dot at 11.11 a.m., the many princes, prince couples, triumvirates, jesters and fools have reigned over the Aachen festival halls at balls and parties of the numerous clubs and carnival societies in the Aachner Fastelovvend (Aachen Carnival).

And when on Ruesemonndag (Rose Monday) thousands of people shout: "Alaaf! D'r Pinz kütt", there is no longer any doubt that carnival is deeply rooted in society here and contributes to the cultural events in the city.

The Order "Against Animal Seriousness", which is awarded annually by the Aachen Carnival Association, honors personalities from politics, film and television "who combine individuality, popularity and mother wit, but above all demonstrate humour and humanity in office."

The best-known knights in recent years include Cem Özdemir, Gregor Gysi, Iris Berben and Annalena Baerbock.
