10/2021: CIVITAS Conference: Presentation of the City of Aachen's Road Safety Action Plan
The CIVITAS Forum, Europe's leading conference on sustainable mobility, took place on October 20-21, 2021 in Aachen, Germany. It brought together experts and practitioners from across the continent to explore the role of transportation in establishing climate-neutral cities by and for citizens.
Organized as a hybrid format through a combination of online and on-site activities, the 2021 conference offered participants the opportunity to discuss issues related to the role of mobility and transport and how local authorities can leverage the support of the European Commission and use its influence in promoting the local economy.
The City of Aachen contributed to the conference on several issues:
- E-charging solutions
- Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs)
- Safer and co-created streets for more liveable cities
- Municipal strategies and measures for zero-emission cities
- Urban Air Mobility – sustainability and responsibility
The more than 320 cities organized in CIVITAS are committed to cleaner and better transport in Europe and beyond. CIVITAS was launched in 2002 and is now in its fifth phase. The city of Aachen is an active member.
The CIVITAS Forum is the annual flagship of the CIVITAS initiative. Each year, it showcases Europe's leading solutions for sustainable mobility and brings together the clean transportation community to exchange views on the most pressing issues in this field.
In 2021, the city of Aachen hosted the forum for the second time since 2003.
As a special highlight, the city of Aachen received the "CIVITAS Award" in 2021.
