Road safety action plan
The "Road Safety Action Plan" is the City of Aachen's framework concept, with the help of which structured and intensive work is being carried out to increase subjective and objective road safety on Aachen's roads.
The aim of the City of Aachen's Road Safety Action Plan is to implement Vision Zero, for which the federal government and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia provide a framework with their programs.
The vision of the city of Aachen is that road users do not cause fatal or serious accidents. Accidents are generally the exception since the road space is designed safely and people are AChtsam on the road.
On the way to achieving this goal are both increasing the
- objective (actual and in the accident statistics readable) road safety as well as
- subjective road safety (as perceived by road users)
in focus.
Particular attention is paid to vulnerable people, as they are significantly more affected in terms of the severity and consequences of accidents.

The pillars of the action plan
The action plan is divided into three pillars. This structure was initiated, developed and adopted in a multi-stage process. The action plan has been systematically filled with content since 01.08.2018.
Pillar I: Organization and structure
The concerns of road safety work are taken into account internally and externally through the "Organization and Structure" pillar of the action plan.
Pillar II: Planning and infrastructure
The planning of transport infrastructure lays the foundations for a self-explanatory and forgiving transport infrastructure.
Pillar III: Public relations
It is the task of road safety work to provide the public with information and to communicate with them.
