P+R concept
Based on an assessment of the potential at four P+R sites, the administration was commissioned by the Mobility Committee on 15.9.2011 to develop a "P+R trial operation" together with AVV, ASEAG and APAG. Central elements of this are the integration of the Tivoli multi-storey parking lot, a shuttle bus concept and an attractive P+R tariff.
The presentation and minutes of the meeting on September 15, 2011 can be viewed here.
On June 21, the Mobility Committee decided on a 6-month trial operation of a Saturday P+R service. It includes the sale of "P+R tickets" for 5 people at Westfriedhof and Tivoli, a Tivoli-Elisenbrunnen shuttle bus and intensive public relations work.

Expert opinion
In 2010, the "verkehrskonzept" office analyzed the current P+R situation in Aachen, reviewed examples from Germany and abroad and developed a concept for making P+R in Aachen more attractive again. A survey of car drivers identified a potential of around 13% of commuters who could be attracted to P+R. This corresponds to around 1,200 vehicles per day on the six arterial roads under consideration. In order to achieve this, however, the boundary conditions for P+R would have to be changed significantly compared to today.
On 7 July 2011, the Mobility Committee commissioned the administration to concretize the planning for four locations. This was followed by a pilot project in the fall and spring of 2012/13 with a Saturday shuttle bus service at two locations. The current service was developed based on the experience gained from this pilot project.
Other P+R facilities in the AVV
At many train stations and stops in the Aachener Verkehrsverbund (AVV), you will also find free parking spaces for your car. In total, there are now P+R facilities with over 4,500 parking spaces at 35 stations and stops in the network area.
