Saxophone

The saxophone impresses with its wide range of expression and its many possible uses: from the different eras of jazz to pop, Latin, rock and soul music. Invented around 1840 by the Belgian Adolphe Sax, original compositions and transcriptions of almost every stylistic epoch can be found in the field of classical music.

Berlioz wrote in his theory of instrumentation: "These voices, newly acquired by the orchestra, have rare and valuable qualities. They are gentle and yet penetrating in the high register, full and pithy in the low register, highly expressive in the middle register, (...)".
