Instrumental lessons at the Aachen Music School
A variety of different instruments can be learned at the Aachen Music School under expert guidance. Instrumental lessons can take place in both group and individual lessons. We also offer various beginner programs for children from the age of 5, such as the Instrument Foxes or the Instrument Wolves. A good opportunity to find out more and try out instruments is the instrument information day, which takes place every year in March at the music school.

Wind instruments

Recorder
The recorder has enchanted music-loving people with its sound for many centuries. As one of the oldest musical instruments, it had its heyday in the Renaissance and Baroque periods. In the 20th century, it regained importance through the rediscovery of early music and because of its outstanding suitability for contemporary music. The recorder now also has a place in jazz and popular music.
Bassoon
The sound of the bassoon is balanced and calmly beautiful and resembles the human baritone voice. With its three and a half octave range, the bassoon sounds full and powerful, especially in the lower register, and somewhat plaintive and melancholy in the upper register. One of the bassoon's main characteristics is its ability to blend well with almost all other instruments.
Clarinet
Due to its flexible, vocal sound, the clarinet has a firm place in jazz, pop and film music alongside classical music. In recent years, folkloristic trends such as klezmer and tango have been added.
Oboe
The oboe is the oldest double-reed instrument. Its sound is produced by two reed-like reeds vibrating against each other when blown. According to the old masters, the oboe has the closest resemblance to the human voice.
Transverse flute
The flute is a woodwind instrument and can be used in various musical styles and instrumentations. Two flutes are usually used in symphony orchestras and several in wind orchestras.
Saxophone
The saxophone impresses with its wide range of expression and its many possible uses: from the different eras of jazz to pop, Latin, rock and soul music. Invented around 1840 by the Belgian Adolphe Sax, original compositions and transcriptions of almost every stylistic epoch can be found in the field of classical music.
Deep plate
The trombone is probably the oldest and most traditional brass instrument. Therefore, literature can be found from all musical epochs and styles since the Renaissance. The trombone is used in jazz, pop and classical music (orchestral and chamber music). Other low wind instruments such as the tenor horn and tuba can also be heard in classical music. The tenor horn and baritone / euphonium are often found in music clubs, where the tuba is also very popular. All low brass instruments are highly valued in orchestras.
Trumpet
The trumpet is probably the most popular brass instrument. Since the Baroque era (natural trumpet), it has been represented throughout all eras and styles in classical orchestral music (as a soloist or in a brass section), in chamber music and today in jazz, pop, film music and in wind orchestras.
French horn
Thanks to its versatility, the French horn can be used in many areas of music. In all eras, from baroque to popular music, from folk to film music, the French horn always creates a special atmosphere. The French horn is very popular when used to accompany church or other festive events.
String instruments

Anyone who wants to listen to classical or contemporary music in Europe today simply cannot ignore string instruments. Anyone who wants to play them has a large repertoire at their disposal, as string instruments are versatile: as a solo instrument, in the orchestra and in chamber music formations. The literature ranges from the Renaissance to modern music to rock, pop and jazz. Thanks to the child-friendly dimensions of string instruments, learning is possible from an early age.

Piano
The piano has enjoyed great popularity over the centuries right up to the present day. The wide keyboard invites you to interpret a large repertoire ranging from Hänschen-Klein, pop music, jazz and virtuoso classical piano works. Almost any piece of music can be performed on the piano. This is the uniqueness of the instrument and the reason why many people dream of learning to play the piano.
Keyboard
The keyboard can be used in many ways due to its technical possibilities: in a band, as an accompanying instrument for singers and instrumentalists, and as an instrument for solo entertainers. Most keyboards have up to 100 rhythms (styles) and instruments (voices) stored.
