Big band

The Jazzotic Big Band is a jazz big band with a classical line-up (17 members) with trumpet, trombone and saxophone section with rhythm section. The repertoire ranges from Glenn Miller, Sammy Nestico, Count Basie, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, Chick Corea to Chuck Mangione, Bob Mintzer and Peter Herbolzheimer. Swing, blues and Latin are the defining styles. Walter Hennecken founded the ensemble in 1986 and was its director for many years. Marc Huynen has led the big band since 2023.
Rock band

It's nice to practice, play and improvise with your instrument in your own room, but it's even more fun to play in a band and have the opportunity to perform live!
The styles of music that can be played in the music school's bands range from rock and blues to Latin and funk. The choice of pieces depends on the composition of the band and the wishes of the participants.
In addition to the typical band instruments such as electric guitar, electric bass, drums and vocals, other instruments (e.g. keyboard, wind instruments) are also welcome

Ars Cantandi (adults)
© Michael RövenichThe music school choir Ars Cantandi was established in 1932 as the choir of the municipal Volkssingschule by music school founder Leo Niessen. The repertoire mainly comprises international sacred and secular a cappella works from the Renaissance to the music of the 20th century. But works of choral symphonic music with orchestra have also been performed, with the orchestra of the music school for smaller ensembles and with the orchestra of the Cologne University of Music, Aachen location, for larger ensembles.

HEIKE_LACHMANN, © HEIKE_LACHMANN"Sing it!" - The company choir of the city of Aachen is looking forward to more members - we still need your voice!
Singing together brings body, mind and soul into harmony, helps to reduce stress and has proven positive effects on mental and physical health. In addition, a joint choir project provides a strong impetus for social interaction within the workforce. And: singing is fun and even more so in a group!
The company choir will start up again in May with a breath of fresh air - and you can be part of it!
Following a change in the choir director, the company choir is starting a new chapter and is looking forward to welcoming new voices in all registers. Whether you are an experienced singer or a curious beginner - every voice is welcome! Previous experience is expressly not required. The company choir sings a varied repertoire, enjoys music and looks forward to growing musically together.
For the continuation of the current choir project, we were able to recruit Aachen-based singer Merle Kneissl as an instructor, who, in addition to her studies in jazz singing at the Maastricht Conservatory, has a lot of experience as a voice coach and in coaching untrained voices. Choirs have played an important role in her musical life and she is delighted to be able to share the joy of singing with the company choir of the city of Aachen. Her way of working with "Teach Me-Tracks" guarantees low-threshold access and a motivating setting! The company choir is a joint project of the company health management (Healthy Administration) and the City of Aachen's music school and is aimed exclusively at all active and former employees of the City of Aachen. Previous knowledge is expressly not required.
