Green spaces and trees make streets and squares more attractive. They "stand" for quality of life in the city. Trees evaporate water and cool the air; they produce oxygen and bind carbon dioxide and dust. In summer, they provide shade. They provide a habitat for birds, spiders, beetles and other insects in the city.

Why is the city looking for sponsors?

Green spaces and trees make streets and squares more attractive. They stand for quality of life in the city. Trees and plants evaporate water and cool the air. They produce oxygen and bind carbon dioxide and dust. They provide a habitat for birds, spiders, beetles and other insects in the city.

Plants in urban areas are exposed to extreme environmental influences and stresses:

• The space for roots and branches is limited, the surrounding area is sealed and the soil is more compacted. This makes it harder for the plants to breathe and the root system can only spread to a limited extent.
• In summer, plants and trees often suffer from a lack of water; in winter, road salt sometimes damages the roots and green areas. These special living conditions require a high level of care for the planting and lawn areas. Sponsors can support Aachen's municipal services and take intensive care of a piece of nature in the city
• Citizens are welcome to support the municipal company in supplying water to the areas and trees. No sponsorship is required for this.

What maintenance do the sponsorship areas need?

For each individual sponsored area, it is determined exactly what maintenance is necessary and should be carried out by the sponsors. For example, as a sponsor you should:

• Planting the sponsored area, clearing it of weeds and garbage
• Carry out maintenance work on shrubs and perennials
• Water in dry weather.
• Mowing small green areas
• Clean areas of waste
• Report damage to your sponsored child.

Tree maintenance and pruning will continue to be carried out exclusively by Aachener Stadtbetrieb. Citizens, but also school classes, clubs, neighborhoods or companies can sponsor trees on the street or in smaller green spaces. 750 Aachen residents are already taking care of green godchildren and thus actively shaping their living environment. We will be happy to advise you on the care and design of the sponsored greenery. The sponsored green is given a sign that clearly shows that a sponsor is looking after the green space. The green sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship. All citizens, but also school classes, clubs, neighborhoods or companies can sponsor street trees and small green spaces. 750 Aachen citizens are already taking care of green godchildren and not only relieving the burden on Aachen's municipal services, but also actively helping to shape their living environment.

The "sponsored child" receives a sign that makes it clear that a sponsor is looking after the tree or green space. The sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship.
