Air quality has a major impact on human health, quality of life and the environment. The basis for a sustainable improvement in air quality in Aachen is the monitoring of this through continuous measurements, the regulation of the environmental zone and other measures

Measured values and measures

Aachen environmental zone
The boundary of the low emission zone is largely based on the Aachen outer ring road and includes all roads within this area. Vehicles within the low emission zone require a corresponding fine dust sticker.
Measurements
The city of Aachen and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia regularly measure nitrogen dioxide pollution at various locations - especially where high levels can occur due to traffic. The aim is to improve air quality in the long term and protect the health of the population.
Air pollution control
36 measures in the areas of transport and energy were defined in the current update of the Aachen Clean Air Plan (2015).
