City funding for 2023 exhausted

The City of Aachen's funding pot for solar subsidies in the amount of 1.6 million euros in 2023 has been exhausted.
The City of Aachen's Climate and Environment Department will no longer accept new applications for solar energy use from 15.08.2023.

All applications received in full by 14.08.2023 will be processed and applicants will receive their funding.

Funding program for solar use and building refurbishment

Currently longer processing times - we ask for your understanding and patience.

Due to the great response to the "solar systems" and "energy-efficient building refurbishment" funding programs, which we are very pleased about, the number of applications has increased enormously. Unfortunately, the Climate and Environment department currently only has limited staff capacity available, which means that the processing of applications and payments has fallen behind schedule.

The administration regrets this and apologizes for the fact that some applicants have to wait several months and therefore significantly longer than planned for their notifications or payment.

To ensure that the available personnel resources can be deployed as efficiently as possible, we kindly ask you to refrain from contacting us - especially by telephone - regarding the status of processing until further notice.

For essential content-related or technical queries, please use the e-mail addresses solar@mail.aachen.de and altbau@mail.aachen.de, depending on the funding program.

Please submit applications and documents for payment digitally via the service portal.

You have no disadvantages in terms of funding due to the longer processing times.

Applications for funding under the solar program are still subject to immediate approval for the early start of measures.

In the building renovation funding program, you will receive an automatic confirmation of receipt of the application after submitting the application in the service portal and usually within a few days a further message in the service portal about the approval of the early start of measures.

Please note in both cases that the early start of measures only entitles you to start implementation at your own risk, but does NOT constitute a binding funding commitment.

Thank you for your understanding and patience!

Redesign of the solar subsidy program

New funding conditions will apply from February 7, 2023.

Funding is available for:
- Photovoltaic systems in the city of Aachen.
- Plug-in solar devices in rental properties and condominiums
- Electricity storage systems
- Solar neighbourhood festivals
- Solar thermal systems
- Initial consultations on photovoltaic systems on apartment buildings
- Additional installation and material costs for photovoltaic systems on apartment buildings

Further information and the amount of the respective funding can be found in the funding guidelines.

Note: All applications received before 7 February 2023 will be processed in accordance with the 2022 guidelines.

Approval of the early start of measures (general ruling)

Due to the high number of applications received for the solar funding program, there are currently delays in the processing and approval of funding applications. At the same time, there is a need for applicants to accept the submitted offer promptly due to the workload of the installation companies.

Against this background, the early start of measures within the meaning of Section 1.2.1. of the current funding guidelines is deemed to be automatically approved by this publication on the homepage until further notice.

In concrete terms, this means

You may place the order with the specialist company and start construction immediately after submitting the application and receiving confirmation of receipt. This does not result in any disadvantages for you with regard to the funding of the measures you have applied for.

IMPORTANT, please note:

The approval of the early start of measures does not constitute a funding commitment!

The funding program is a voluntary service provided by the City of Aachen. There is no automatic entitlement to funding due to the early start of measures. The final review, processing and decision on your application will take place at a later date.

We will inform you as soon as your application has been processed. We will actively contact you if there are any queries regarding applications or if documents need to be submitted later.
