New planning for the Schagenstrasse playground/football pitch

Families and young people living in the Brand district would like to see the Schagenstraße playground and football pitch upgraded, in particular the skate park should be renovated or refurbished.

After an extensive basic investigation, the administration commissioned the planning office Maier Landschaftsarchitektur (specializing in skate parks) to redesign the skate park in 2024. The planning office developed 2 preliminary design variants, on the basis of which a youth and citizen participation took place in the fall of 2024. Based on the input from the participation, the favored preliminary design variant was further developed into the current design and approved by the relevant committees. The further work phases can now be developed and, following the invitation to tender, construction of the new skate park is expected to begin in early 2026. Depending on the weather, construction is expected to take around 10 weeks.

The design combines the wishes of the residents with the requirements resulting from the noise protection report, among other things. A versatile and inclusive facility with a medium level of difficulty will be created on the area of the existing skate park and an extension area of approx. 90 m². The new skating facility will be constructed using the in-situ or shotcrete method and will be equipped with all-round edges ("steel coping"). In addition to flat areas, an asymmetrical "bowl" with different features ("corners" and "hips") will be created. It will offer user groups (e.g. skaters, roller blades, scooters, WCMX wheelchairs and bikes) various routes with different levels of difficulty. For example, the "Roll-In" is particularly beginner-friendly and the extension on the northern side ("Extention") is a challenge for advanced riders. A small hill ("Wobble") placed in the middle of the "Bowl" helps to maintain the momentum for the various possible uses. The creation of a paved recreation area next to the existing shelter with a bench and additional seating on the slope enhances the quality of the facility. New bicycle racks and litter garbage cans round off the offer.

In addition, further upgrading and noise-reducing measures are planned for the pitch from June 2025. The football field goals will be renewed and relocated, the basketball court will be given a synthetic surface with lines and the basketball stands will be replaced with products with noise-reducing nets.

The temporary modular pump track, which had been set up on the meadow area of the Schagenstraße playground/baseball pitch since mid-2024, was moved to the Stettiner Straße playground/baseball pitch before construction work began.
