Energy, water, waste - we're tackling it!

...under this motto we, the energy management of the city of Aachen, would like to support you in the sustainable use of energy, water and waste at your school and have developed various offers for you.

We would like to develop further support offers with you in exchange and for your specific needs and challenges. Feel free to contact us or write to us!

The new bonus system - your commitment pays off

In Aachen's schools, there is a great willingness to make an effort to use resources sparingly. This has already been demonstrated by many campaigns in recent years. In order to support your commitment and the development of new projects, the energy management team has launched the bonus system.

If you complete certain tasks within a school year that promote better use of energy, water and waste, you will receive a cash reward. The bonus system always starts at the beginning of the new school year. Registration is possible before or after the summer vacation. Participation then lasts for the entire school year.

You can find more information in the quick guide. You will also find the application form on the right, as well as the documents you need to submit during the school year in order to receive the cash bonus.

Teaching unit - "How does our school get warm?"

Everyone talks about energy - but how does a heating system actually work?

We offer all Aachen elementary school free bookable classroom visits in which we get to the bottom of this question with 3rd or 4th grade pupils.

In the teaching unit "How does our school get warm? ", they learn about the key elements of a heating system and how it works, based on their own school's heat supply. We use illustrative examples to make the technology understandable. A visit to the school's boiler room rounds off the offer. We also provide worksheets that can be used to consolidate the knowledge gained.

We require approx. 2-3 consecutive teaching hours to complete the teaching unit. The exact schedule can be individually adapted by arrangement.

The teaching unit can be booked during the heating period (October - April). Appointments can be made at any time.

We are also happy to support teachers and pupils from secondary schools with information about the school's energy supply.

Waste brochure

Would you like to start a campaign to reduce and/or separate waste at your school or simply find out more about waste at Aachen schools? We have compiled important information for you in our waste brochure.

The brochure contains information on waste quantities, disposal costs and the environmental impact of waste at Aachen schools. We tell you who is responsible for what when it comes to separating and disposing of waste at school, from the classroom to the "waste car". We will also show you various ways in which the topic of waste can be addressed in everyday school life. A checklist is provided for this purpose, which can be used as part of a teaching unit or an action day to shed light on the waste situation and develop activities. We present you with examples of activities from some Aachen schools and have compiled a list of materials for children of different age groups, as well as already prepared teaching materials, educational videos and interactive websites, such as educational games on the topic. In the brochure you will also find the contacts of people who can help and support you with various issues.

If you have any questions, comments or have started your own campaigns - get in touch with us!

We would like to keep adding information to the brochure, answer any questions that arise and present further examples of campaigns and look forward to your suggestions.
