Social development plan

Third social development plan

How is Aachen developing? What are the key demographic and social trends in the individual urban districts? Where is Aachen booming as a university location, where can a noticeable demographic ageing process be observed? And what does all this mean for local people, social actors and municipal planning? These are just some of the questions to which the current social development plan provides answers. In keeping with tradition, the Social Development Plan offers a detailed look at Aachen's social development and provides an overview using small-scale data and information based on the 60 statistical living spaces. The plan combines different perspectives on social development, brings together the findings of individual specialist plans and thus attempts to outline a complex overall picture of the social situation and its causes and consequences. Whether demographic ageing, the risk of poverty, social participation or university development - the 3rd Social Development Plan brings together the most important aspects of social development and thus offers a comprehensive planning basis for politics and various specialist disciplines.

Update on the third social development plan

In these times characterized by crises, war and uncertainty, an update of the 3rd Social Development Plan is now being published. As usual, the complex social development of the city is presented on the basis of a small-scale analysis of Aachen's 60 living spaces. Various social development topics (demography, socio-economics, university development) are also taken into account. The update is primarily an update of the data of the small-scale social reporting by supplementing and analyzing figures and information for the period 31.12.2018 to 31.12.2020. However, the work focuses in particular on the question of what effects the current crises and, in particular, the pandemic have had on the development of urban society and what effects can be observed when looking at the core topics of social reporting. In this respect, it is to some extent a matter of concretizing the much-discussed burning glass function on our social structures, which is repeatedly attributed to the pandemic. More in-depth observations, analyses and corresponding deductions from this must be made in the specialist departments. At the very least, however, this work provides points of reference for discussions and classifies developments.
