The neighborhood

The development of the former Hanbruch estate began in 1962 with the aim of creating a social mix within the area. For this reason, space was provided both for private housing construction and for development by non-profit housing associations. As a result, 790 rental apartments, 182 terraced houses and 136 detached houses were built. The Kronenberg-Rosfeld living space (hereinafter referred to as Kronenberg) essentially comprises the areas with multi-storey residential buildings inside and outside the Amsterdamer Ring. On 31.12.2014, 2,732 people lived there.

The age composition shows that the population on Kronenberg became younger between 2007 and 2013. This is because the aging index is constantly rising. In 2013, there were almost as many <18-year-olds as >64-year-olds living in the area (index close to 100). This development is in contrast to the city as a whole, where the corresponding ratio is constantly decreasing slightly. This can be seen as an opportunity when designing intergenerational projects.

The population dynamics between 2007 and 2013 show a slight predominance of migration from the Kronenberg living space (-0.7%), while the other living spaces in the city recorded an average increase of 1.4%. In contrast, population turnover as a measure of population reallocation at 6.2% (2013) is far below the city average (15.4%). From this point of view, the Kronenberg therefore proves to be a stable living space.

The Kronenberg is on the move. The social mix and other good framework conditions offer the opportunity to make the district lively and even more liveable. These include the high level of commitment shown by residents and institutions, the establishment of a district conference and the creation of a district office/district management.

District conference

On the basis of the "Kronenberg Round Table", the Department of Social Affairs and Integration launched a district conference on 26.09.2013.

The Kronenberg district conference is active in many areas and is particularly committed to creating opportunities for people to meet in the neighborhood.
