The neighborhood
From a social planning perspective, the Forst / Driescher Hof district is made up of a total of four living spaces: Schönforst, Altforst, Obere Trierer Straße and Driescher Hof. A special feature of the district is that it is intersected by two major traffic axes: The outer ring road (Adenauerallee and Madrider Ring) and Trierer Straße. To date, both axes have prevented a uniform sense of belonging to the entire district from developing. This is particularly true of the Obere Trierer Straße area, which stretches along both sides of this axis, while Schönforst, Altforst and Driescher Hof within the axis intersection feel more like units and each have their own individual characteristics. However, various activities of the district conference are aimed at strengthening cooperation.
On 31.12.2014, 20,950 people lived in this area.
In terms of its population, the Forst / Driescher Hof area is still a comparatively old neighborhood: the aging index is below 100 in all survey years, i.e. more people over the age of 64 live in the neighborhood than young people under the age of 18. However, the rising values since 2007 and the comparison with Aachen as a whole show that the topic of "youth" is gradually gaining in importance. Obere Trierer Strasse and Driescher Hof are particularly affected by this.
The supply situation in Forst and Driescher Hof varies greatly depending on the living space. For Schönforst, Altforst and Obere Trierer Straße, Trierer Straße itself forms the central supply axis. Here you can find stores for daily needs, and in some cases also for periodic needs. Away from this axis, however, there are only a few stores.
In contrast, a wealth of social facilities are located off Trierer Strasse. They provide services for children, young people, adults, families and senior citizens or are aimed at the general public regardless of a specific target group.
District conference
The Driescher Hof development area, which was built between 1960 and 1980, is one of the districts in which a district conference was set up very early on, on October 17, 1989, in cooperation between the Social Welfare Office and the Youth Welfare Office of the City of Aachen. Initially, the conference focused exclusively on the Driescher Hof area. As can be seen from the first letter of invitation, it was hoped that it would provide "impetus for future cooperation in the district".
