About us

The City of Aachen's Seniors' Council (formerly the "Seniors' Advisory Council") has been in existence for over 40 years. The city recognized very early on that older residents must be given sufficient consideration by the administration, politicians and other institutions and need their own "lobby" for this. However, we do not see ourselves as lobbyists, but rather as bridge builders between institutions and generations. Because at some point, non-seniors will also grow old and should then also benefit from our commitment.

The Seniors' Council represents around 30% of all Aachen residents as a link to various institutions. Around 30% of senior citizens eligible to vote took part in the 2022 senior citizens' council elections. We would like to report on the work of your seniors' councillors here.

Wir wollen

  • provide more transparency about our work
  • Create more interest in co-determination as part of the senior citizens' council elections
  • Arouse interest in applying to become a senior council member.

With our web presence within aachen.de we would like to inform you. We not only report on our work here, but also see ourselves as your information platform for many current topics relating to ageing in Aachen. We thus complement the already extensive municipal pages.

Don't feel like a senior citizen yet? For Aachen, the age 60+ has been defined as the age at which you belong to the group of senior citizens. From this age, you can stand as a candidate for the Senior Citizens' Council and elect the members of the Senior Citizens' Council. The elections take place regularly every 5 years in parallel with the state parliament elections.

It is important to recognize that we can continue to make an important contribution to society in old age - regardless of whether we fit the classification of "senior citizen". But if we are not to be forgotten and sufficiently heard, we must also get involved.

We want to be the initiator and multiplier for this. Help us and talk to us!

Finally, some more information:

We all work on a voluntary basis for the interests of 60plus. For this reason, we would like to thank the city for integrating our website into their website so that we did not have to implement our own technical solution.
