Examples from our district work
In our monthly consultation hour, the most diverse problems of Aachen's senior citizens are discussed.
For example, we discussed ASEAG route maps that are no longer printed, distances to ASEAG bus stops that are too long, the accessibility of paths in the Westpark with wheelchairs or complaints about the Nile goose and its excrement.
A particular problem is the historic pavement in the city centre, which is difficult for senior citizens to walk on, and neglected paths, which can lead to serious falls. Broken bones and physical injuries suffered by one citizen were documented.
In many cases, help was successfully provided. For example, ASEAG route maps are once again available at the Peterstraße service point, paths in Westpark have been repaired, contact has been established with social welfare authorities and problems from other districts have been passed on to the relevant members of the Seniors' Council.
Our plans for 2023/2024
There are many more questions and topics to be addressed:
At our suggestion, the senior citizens' sports club will set up a self-defence course for senior citizens.
Other issues include the accessibility and delays of buses and trains and the ASEAG price increase.
A recurring problem is cyclists who endanger senior citizens on the sidewalks and in the pedestrian zones - but especially on Münsterplatz and at the market.
There are also always new topical issues. So there is still a lot to do.
