Our everyday lives are becoming increasingly digital. Artificial intelligence is analyzing our behaviour, algorithms will soon know us better than our friends and crooks are taking advantage of our digital ignorance. But are we really taking all people with us in these changes?
On October 30, 2023, information and discussions were held in the plenary hall of the NRW state parliament. The "We Consumers in NRW" and the "NRW State Seniors' Representative Body" had invited people to this event and representatives of the Aachen Seniors' Council were also present in Düsseldorf.
Based on the results of the study "Life without the internet - is it still possible?", a list of demands was drawn up with 10 core demands for the participation of older people, which are addressed to the state government. These are
- Promoting digital learning and experience locations
- Set up service locations for "offline" users
- Provide easily accessible information on learning opportunities
- Ensure training and support for multipliers
- Ensuring the right to use the internet in care homes
- Adding digital assistance to the care service catalog
- Supplementing municipal plans for the elderly and closing gaps in digital services
- Holding the digital economy to account
- Provide independent advice on suitable end devices
- Representative determination of demand
Details on the points can be found in the list of demands to ensure the digital participation of older people from "We consumers in NRW" and the "NRW State Seniors' Representation"

In the past, the Senior Citizens' Council of the City of Aachen has repeatedly had to ensure that information is not provided exclusively in digital form (e.g. ASEAG timetables). And we will certainly also address some points for Aachen. But we will also continue to critically monitor the implementation of these demands at state level and provide information here.
