The future

Future of the needle factory

As the conclusion of the ten-year district renewal of Aachen East, the house will become a permanent and therefore sustainable institution for the residents of the district. Against the backdrop of the district growing together and the increasing identification with what is a new home for many residents, an institution will be created that can continue the work that has been started in the future. The building, with its wide range of uses, will ensure a positive public perception beyond the district. The presence of different cultural groups will promote coexistence and mutual understanding. The partial use of the building as a city archive offers direct access to Aachen's history. Together with the "Migration History in Aachen" exhibition developed as part of the SUN project, this provides the opportunity to come to terms with one's own history and experiences.

In addition, there are opportunities for leisure activities in the area of sport or low-threshold educational programs that appeal directly to people. Kennedy Park, which was also upgraded as part of the district renewal, is the entrance to the House of Identity and Integration and offers a high-quality transition from the district to the building complex. The former factory is thus no longer perceived as a foreign body, but as an integral part of the district. These factors lead to an improvement in living conditions in Aachen East and to a further development of the goals already achieved in the district.

The successful measures initiated and implemented by the "Socially Integrative City" funding program are to be sustainably supported and further developed by the HII project.

The focus is on:
