The organization Religions for Peace (RfP) invites people of all religions to work together for peace on the basis of the peace values of their respective religions.
With this objective in mind, representatives of all major religions from all continents met in 1970 for the first World Conference of Religions for Peace (WCRP). Aware of the problems of the past, they sought common paths for a future of peace, freedom and justice. In the years that followed, WCRP (for some years under the name "Religions for Peace" (RfP)) also became a name for the groups emerging worldwide that are committed to this task and, taking into account the respective religious traditions and differences, are seeking ways to tolerance and understanding through dialog.
RfP is a worldwide movement (non-governmental organization (NGO) accredited by the United Nations) with groups and members from almost all religious communities in over 100 countries.
All people who are themselves at home in a religious tradition or who place their religiosity at the service of peace are invited to participate in RfP.
At national level, there are independently operating RfP groups in around 30 countries; the German group was founded in 1988, below which there are currently local groups in 13 cities and regions that are in regular contact with each other. The Aachen local group has been in existence since 2001.
"No peace among the nations without peace among the religions.
No peace among the religions without dialog between the religions.
No dialog between the religions without mutual understanding between the religions."
(after Hans Küng, from the statement to the UN General Assembly on 9.11.2001)
