Islam

It contains the word salam. It means peace, truth and, in a religious sense, complete submission to the will of God. Alongside Judaism and Christianity, Islam is one of the three major world religions and has the same foundation. A Muslim should emanate peace: between himself and God, his personal environment, his family, his society, the environment, in short, God's creation as a whole.

The image of God is the focus of Islamic teaching and is convincing in its unambiguousness. Allah, the Creator of all being, reveals Himself to us humans in His revelations with His 99 names or attributes; among these, Allah is His proper name and "the Infinitely Merciful" is the most frequently mentioned.

The sources of Islamic doctrine are: the Quran (the Holy Book of Muslims, Quran: the much-read), the Sunnah (the way of life of the Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him - and the sayings or hadiths of the Prophet. This teaching claims to be valid for every time and all times.

Islamic teachings encompass all areas of life and apply equally to men and women. Islam gives meaning to life and death, but never leaves any doubt, without neglecting this world, that success in the hereafter is the main goal of our human existence.

In short, the beliefs and pillars of Islam: a practicing Muslim is a person whose religious beliefs are closely intertwined with their religious practice.

The Muslim believes:

  • in a single God, Allah (pure monotheism): this is the starting point;
  • to the resurrection;
  • in an eternal life after death;
  • to all revelations (Torah, Psalms, Gospel about the prophets Adam, Abraham, Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Jesus) and as the last revelation the Koran (confirming all previous ones), which Muhammad received as the last and seal of the prophets;
  • to the angels;
  • to fate or predestination.

These include the so-called 5 pillars of faith practice:

  • the profession of faith (Shahada) that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger,
  • the 5 daily obligatory ritual prayers,
  • the compulsory tax (Zakat),
  • fasting in the month of Ramadan,
  • the pilgrimage to Mecca once in a lifetime (Hajj).

O mankind, We have created you from a male and a female, and We have made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Surely the most honored of you by Allah is the most God-fearing of you. Surely Allah is All-Knowing and All-Knowing."

Koran
Sura 49, verse 13

"None of you is a believer until he desires for his brother what he desires for himself."

Prophet Muhammad
Peace and blessings be upon him

Bilal Mosque

The idea for an Islamic center in Aachen was born in 1958 by a group of Muslim students who had formed the IMSU association. In 1964, the foundation stone was laid with great support from RWTH Aachen University and the city of Aachen, making the Bilal Mosque the oldest mosque in Aachen today. While the IZA was originally built for 200 visitors, today around 800 Muslims attend Friday prayers every week and up to 2000 Muslims take part in the festive prayers. The IZA is an important meeting place for many Muslims from Aachen and the surrounding area. The community is made up of Muslims from different backgrounds. Against this background, German is the unifying language.

Abuzar Mosque

Alongside the majority of Sunnis, the Shiites are the second largest denomination within Islam. According to the Shiite view, Islam has five foundations: belief in one God, prophethood, resurrection after death, the Imamate (i.e. the succession of the Prophet by selected personalities from the Prophet's family) and the justice of God.

Since the Islamic Association Aachen e.V. as the sponsor of the Abuzar Mosque does not define itself in terms of a specific nationality, but rather on the basis of beliefs and activities, its membership structure is very mixed, unlike the majority of comparable Muslim associations. Our events are mainly attended by people of Iranian, Turkish, Afghan and Iraqi origin in roughly equal proportions.

There are also Germans, Indians and other nationalities. Our events are multilingual, mainly in Persian and Turkish. In particular, the events for the club's young people, but increasingly also the general events, are in German.

The Abuzar Mosque is the only Shiite Islamic mosque in the region, which is why its catchment area extends as far as Düsseldorf, Maastricht and Cologne with a radius of around 100 km.

The association's activities cover religious, cultural and sporting areas. In addition to Islamic services and festivals, there are also lecture evenings, courses and tutoring.
