The calendar is published by the "Dialogue of Religions" in Aachen, a working group under the leadership of the City of Aachen.
Older versions can be found at the bottom of this page.
The aim and purpose of the calendar is to inform the members of the religions in the city about the respective religious festivals and holidays as well as the festive times of the other religions. This is intended to promote mutual awareness, respect and understanding between the religions in Aachen.
The dates of the religious holidays and times are passed on to the editorial team by the religious communities.
Festivals and celebrations with a religious basis are included from the revelatory sources of the respective religions, written sources, religious traditions, and also according to astronomical calculations, insofar as reliable statements can be made about them.
Examples of floating holidays: Easter, end of Ramadan,
Examples of fixed calendar dates: Christmas.
Political holidays are not included, even if they may have a religious reference. Examples of this are: Holocaust Remembrance Day (Jewish, January 24), International Women's Day (generally March 8), Sivas Massacre (Alevi, July 2), St. Bartholomew's Day (Protestant, September 24), German Unity Day (October 3).
Holidays that commemorate important religious figures and that are generally celebrated in a popular way can be included (example: St. Martin's Day on November 11 and St. Nicholas Day on December 6).
The days are highlighted in color in the calendar, in the case of double occupancy also multicolored. The days of the week are noted.
