What is equality?
Equal opportunities, participation and rights for all - the aim of the City of Aachen's equality policy is to establish equal rights for all genders in all areas of life. In doing so, it stands on the ground of the Basic Law and works to realize the mission of supporting all people in their efforts to develop without stereotypes.
Our work is based on Article 3, paragraph 2 of the German Basic Law: "Men and women shall have equal rights. The state shall promote the effective implementation of equal rights for women and men and shall work towards the elimination of existing disadvantages". Our mission and goal are derived from this: women should have the same rights as men and men the same rights as women. And not just on paper.
Our goal is to establish equal rights for all genders in all areas of life. We are therefore also committed to the recognition and equal rights of non-binary people and people with other gender identities.
How exactly do we do that? That's what this page is all about. Click on the tiles to find out about the various areas of the City of Aachen's equal opportunities work. You will notice: Gender equality work is multifaceted!
We are involved in all processes within the administration. At the same time, we also work for the citizens of Aachen. We meet them, for example, at our numerous events.
Change is work and does not work on its own. The Equal Opportunities Office is part of networks in the region and at state and national level.
Incidentally, just as data protection officers carry out policy work, everyone shares responsibility for data protection. The same applies to all of us! All employees of the administration - especially managers - contribute to this. As a cross-cutting issue, equality is relevant in all areas of life and work.
