The non-profit organization "Familiengerechte Kommune e. V." has the statutory goal of increasing family justice in Germany in a targeted, tangible and sustainable manner. It is supported in this by the Ministry for Family, Children, Youth, Culture and Sport of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the German Child Protection Association, the German Association of Cities and the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, among others. The association makes the instruments "Audit Family-Friendly Municipality" and "Audit Family-Friendly District" available nationwide. The non-profit audit is a democratically supported planning and management tool. It supports districts and municipalities in finding sustainable solutions for family justice. The association's other tasks include the training and networking of municipal stakeholders. The city of Aachen has been one of the "family-friendly municipalities" in North Rhine-Westphalia since 2010.
