Playgrounds

Space for children! Aachen aims to be an attractive and liveable city, especially for families and children. Outdoor play and exercise facilities are an important part of this. In our city there are 242 playgrounds, 56 football pitches and 13 skate parks, which are continuously being developed, renovated, monitored and maintained. They should be attractive for children and young people of all ages. As important social meeting places, they promote intergenerational exchange and togetherness in the various neighborhoods.

With the playground concept adopted by the Committee for the Environment and Climate Protection and the Children and Youth Committee, the City of Aachen has set the course for the ambitious and needs-based development of public play facilities. They should meet the individual needs of children and be combined with green open spaces close to nature.

The playground concept includes recommendations for the topic of inclusion for society as a whole. The aim is the normal and everyday coexistence of people with and without disabilities. Playgrounds must be designed in such a way that they are also accessible and usable for people with special requirements and needs.
