Aachen City Library is a public library. Here, all Aachen residents and all citizens from the region can educate themselves, inform themselves, play, communicate, borrow analog or digital media and take part in numerous events.

With the library card, anyone can use the digital media offer 7 days a week, anytime and anywhere: over 12,000 German-language eBooks, electronic catalogs, newspaper and magazine archives as well as film classics, children's audio books, educational games and much more.

Guided tours & workshops

  • Library tours

    To help you get to know the city library better, we offer guided tours of the central library and the district libraries. The tours usually last about an hour and are free of charge. We are happy to discuss with you individually what content you would like to learn about during the tour. If you would like to take part in a guided tour, please make an appointment with us.

  • Workshops "Fit for specialist work" - focus on information literacy

    In the 2025/2026 school year, Aachen City Library will once again be offering workshops as part of the "Fit for the technical paper" program.
    As technical papers are entering a new phase through the use of AI, we are placing a special focus on teaching information skills this year.

    Who are the workshops aimed at?

    The offer is aimed at students in Q1 who are preparing for the Abitur and are researching for project courses or technical papers.

    Topics include:

    • Effective research methods
    • Dealing critically with fake news
    • Independent work for presentations and exam preparation


    Our offer for schools:

    • On site in the city library: Your student groups will learn how to search for literature in the library catalog, in the digital library and in our databases.
    • Directly at your school: On request, we can come into the classroom and teach the content on site.
    • Free & flexible: We adapt our concept to the current needs of teachers and students every year.

  • Fake news workshop for schools

    The city library offers a workshop on debunking fake news by arrangement for pupils from year 9/10. Various tools are shown to check the truthfulness of information.

Opening hours

The Central Library Couvenstraße is located directly at the Aachen bus station and is barrier-free. The "Bushof" stop can be used for public transportation. If you are arriving by car, there is a parking garage directly opposite the city library in Couvenstraße.

  • OpenLibrary: More library for everyone in the Depot district library

    The Open Library in the Depot district library, Talstraße 2, is a "self-service facility" of the Aachen City Library, which you can also use outside of staffed opening hours. Browse through our collection at your leisure, use the tables and chairs to work and rest or the reading platform to read and play. Internet access is free of charge.
