Twin town of Aachen-Kornelimünster/Walheim since 1960
The partnership between the small French town of Montebourg and the then still independent municipality of Walheim was established in 1960. After the municipal reorganization in 1972, the town twinning was transferred from the city of Aachen to the Aachen-Kornelimünster/Walheim district for careful continuation.
The town twinning goes back to the personal commitment of citizens of both municipalities who met as war veterans in France in 1959. Influenced by their war experience and driven by the idea of reconciliation between peoples, contacts were established. In the same year, the first delegation from Montebourg arrived in Walheim. The return visit took place a year later. From the very beginning, exchanges between children and young people were at the heart of the town friendship, which was sealed in 1966 with the exchange of certificates.
