Halifax / Calderdale - Great Britain

Twin city since 1979

The official city partnership agreement was signed in Aachen on November 14, 1979. The relationship with Halifax came about immediately after the Second World War on the initiative of the British military government. With the support of craftsmen from Halifax, the "Yellow Barracks" in Kennedypark was converted into a residential building for young people from Aachen. In 1948, 59 schoolchildren from Aachen were able to travel to English host families in Halifax. In the following years, the partnership developed mainly on the basis of personal friendships and youth work, but also in the context of sporting and economic encounters.
