Data protection notice

The protection of personal data is an important concern for Aachen City Council. We observe the common European principles on data protection of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the national regulations on data protection and we collect and use your personal data in accordance with all legal requirements. Below we explain which personal data we collect during your visit to our website and how it is processed/used. All data transmission is encrypted.

With regard to the terms used, such as "personal data", "controller" or "processing", we refer to the definitions in Art. 4 GDPR.

Data transmission when visiting this website

Your Internet browser automatically transmits the following data to our web server when you access our website:

  • Date and time of access,
  • URL of the referring website,
  • retrieved file,
  • Amount of data sent,
  • Browser type and version,
  • Operating system
  • and your IP address.

The collection of this data is technically necessary in order to display this website and to ensure stability and security and also to protect our website from misuse.

This data is stored separately from other data that you enter when using our information or services. As the communicating IP address is already anonymized when it is collected, it is not possible for us to assign this data to a specific person. We use the access data for the continuous improvement of our website, for statistical purposes and for our own market research. For this purpose, we create pseudonymized user profiles from the above-mentioned data. This is done in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR for the performance of tasks incumbent on us that are in the public interest.

Data collection

Our website offers you various functions which collect personal data when you use them and which are processed and stored by Aachen City Council. Below we explain what happens to this data:

Tracking:
The aachen.de website uses technology from etracker GmbH (www.etracker.com) to collect and store data for optimization purposes. Only shortened and anonymized IP addresses are used for analysis, which makes it absolutely impossible to draw any conclusions about users. Again, no data is passed on to third parties

Aachen.de uses the services of etracker GmbH from Hamburg, Germany (www.etracker.com) to analyze usage data. We do not use cookies for web analysis by default.
The data generated with etracker is processed and stored by etracker exclusively in Germany on behalf of the City of Aachen and is therefore subject to the strict German and European data protection laws and standards. etracker has been independently audited, certified and awarded the ePrivacyseal data protection seal of approval in this regard.

This is done in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e GDPR for the performance of tasks incumbent on us that are in the public interest.


Data processing is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e) GDPR for the performance of tasks incumbent on us that are in the public interest.

Our aim in this regard is to optimize our online offering and our website. Since the privacy of our visitors is important to us, the data that may allow a reference to an individual person, such as the IP address, login or device identifiers, are anonymized or pseudonymized as soon as possible. No other use, merging with other data or transfer to third parties takes place.

Cookies:
"Cookies" are small text files that demonstrably do not contain any malicious code and can be stored on your computer when you visit our website. The cookies we use only control the functions of our website and do not pass on any data to other parties. Most of the cookies used on our website are so-called session cookies. They are automatically deleted at the end of your visit. Permanent functional cookies remain stored on your end device until you delete them. These cookies enable us to recognize your browser on your next visit and to make user-friendly basic settings.

Third-party content
Content from third-party providers is only displayed to you if you explicitly declare your consent to this in direct connection with the call. The third-party providers provide information about the data protection-compliant use of data after it has been accessed in their data protection declarations. The City of Aachen cannot assume responsibility under data protection law in this regard.

Processing and disclosure of data

We collect, process and store your personal data exclusively for the purpose of processing requests for information or for the provision of parts of our range of services and, if necessary, for the execution of contracts. The purpose of the processing is always described in detail when the data is collected. Permission for processing may be based on personal consent (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a) GDPR) or contractual agreement (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b) GDPR), but may also result from a legal obligation (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. c) GDPR), the pursuit of vital interests (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. d) GDPR) or the performance of tasks in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority (Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e) GDPR). Your data will only be stored and processed for as long as is necessary to fulfill the stated purpose. Your data will then be deleted.
We only pass on personal data to third parties if this is in accordance with the stated purpose of processing your data, if there is a legal obligation to provide information or if we are obliged to provide information by a court decision. Personal data will not be passed on to third parties for purposes other than those stated. Contractors are involved in the design and presentation of the content of our website and in the storage and processing of data. The data protection-compliant processing of your data is guaranteed by a quality-assuring selection of these contractors and by agreements on order processing in accordance with Art. 28 GDPR.

Data security and communication by e-mail

Your personal data is protected by technical and organizational measures during collection, storage and processing so that it is not accessible to third parties. However, we cannot guarantee complete data security for communication by email that is not protected by encryption certificates (De-Mail, qualified digital signature). Please bear in mind that your email content is not transmitted in encrypted form. We therefore accept no liability for any unauthorized access by third parties that may occur during the transmission of unencrypted e-mails.

Your rights under the EU GDPR

As a user of our website, you are entitled in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR to request information from us free of charge about the personal data stored about you at any time without giving reasons. . If data processing is based on personal consent, you have the right to withdraw this consent without giving reasons in accordance with Art. 7 (3) GDPR. This does not apply to the use of your data already made in the past, but only for the future. In accordance with Art. 16, 17, 18 GDPR, you can have your data processed by us corrected, deleted or blocked at any time if you believe that your data is incorrect or there is no longer any reason to process it. You also have the right under Art. 20 GDPR to receive your personal data in a machine-readable format, provided that the data was provided by you by way of consent or on the basis of a contract and the processing of this data was previously carried out using an automated process. In addition, you may object to data processing which is carried out in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. e) GDPR for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR. You can send this objection and the assertion of your rights either by post or by e-mail to the person or body responsible. Finally, we would like to draw your attention to your right to lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority in accordance with Art. 77 GDPR.
