Tourist signposts for children along the Route Charlemagne

The installation of special films at seven stations in the city center fulfills a heartfelt wish that was originally put forward in a citizens' forum by primary school children from KGS Am Römerhof: tourist signposting for children in the historic city center.

By children for children: The installation of special films at the seven stations in the city center - Rathaus, Grashaus, Dom, Couven Museum, Centre Charlemagne, IZM and Elisenbrunnen - fulfills a heartfelt wish that was originally put forward in a citizens' forum by primary school children from KGS Am Römerhof: tourist signposting for children in the historic city center.

Pupils from the Fischmarktschule gave free rein to their creativity and worked with artist Tim Berresheim to create children's signs for the Route Charlemagne.

It was realized by children from the KGS Am Fischmarkt. Together with the artist Tim Berresheim, they explored historical places in the city as part of the participatory art project "From old roots to new strength": first in age-appropriate guided tours by the museum service, then as an artistic examination of their living environment as part of several workshops. The pupils created artworks such as drawings and models, which were then digitized. The results include the children's signs now on display.

Augmented reality apps, laser scanners and 3D scanners, as well as access to classic arts and crafts such as drawing and modeling are used.

Tim Berresheim, internationally renowned and at home in Aachen, is considered a pioneer of computer-aided art. Since fall 2023, he has been making the city the subject of his work with the project "Aus alter Wurzel neue Kraft". In the field of tension between (art) history, technology, science and nature, complex visual worlds are created in his work with children, teenagers and young adults, which are presented at various locations and in different forms throughout the city.
