The Aachen Peace Prize

Logo Aachener FriedenspreisQuoting the declaration made when the Aachen Peace Prize was created in1988: "We wish to show our appreciation to women, men and groups who, viewing the world from the perspective of the underprivileged, have made a contribution to mutual understanding and assistance among individuals and peoples. We wish to honour them irrespective of  ideological, religious or party-political criteria... if they have made peace through a sense of justice, through humanity... through non-violence, civil courage, energy, objectivity and magnanimity. The prize-giving ceremony takes place every year on the 1st of September, the day on which the trade unions celebrate Anti-War Day. The name of the prizewinner is made known on the 8th of May, the Liberation from Fascism in Germany Day.

The Aachen Peace Prize is funded by more than 300 individuals and more than 50 different religious, political, trade union and social groups, not only locally but also regionally and nationally.
